Dublin Bus introduced new route 140 on Sunday 10th Feb 2008 from St Margaret's in Finglas via Dublin City Centre to Leeson Street. Route 140 operates from a new housing development called Hampton Wood & Mayeston Hall, north of Jamestown Road in Finglas. Here is a feature on the first day of operation.
Route 140 is operated by Harristown Garage using Volvo B7TL's with Alexander Dennis bodywork ( AV - AX class ). These double deckers are low floor easy access buses, operating every 10 minutes Monday to Friday, every 15 minutes on Saturdays & every 20 minutes on Sunday.
Route 140 compliments the current route 40 group around Finglas, however route 140 operates a more direct & faster connection to the City Centre. Harristown AX 509 is seen at the southern layover terminus at Wilton Terrace ( also route 92 terminus ) on the first day of route 140.
Harristown AX 514 is seen at the Hampton Wood/ Mayeston Hall terminus. Route 140 loops around the housing estate to turn & there is a bus lane outbound. The recently introduced new Dublin Bus corporate yellow/ black colour scheme can be seen on the Dublin Bus carousel.
AX 510 negotiates the narrow Hampton Wood Park as it loops around the estate to the terminus just around the corner. There is proposals to extend route 140 from the present terminus up to the new IKEA shopping complex further up St. Margaret's Road when construction begins later in 2008.
Route 140 serves new housing developments in the Finglas area including...

  • Hampton Wood
  • Mayestown
  • Jamestown Road
  • Jamestown Business Park
  • Charlestown
  • LIDL/ ALDI St Margaret's
  • Clearwater Tesco
Hampton Wood Avenue in the estate, where route 140 goes around to terminate back on St Margaret's Road
Route 140 operates to convenient locations such as Phibsboro Shopping Centre, Parnell Street, O' Connell Street, Nassau Street, Kildare Street & St Stephens Green
Operating ever 10 minutes Monday to Friday, route 140 replaces the infrequent route 40B & far away routes 19/19A to the Hampton Wood / Charlestown residents.

Route 140 follows similar routes launched recently in the Capital, such as the 4, 128, 145 & 151 offering high frequency direct routes from the City to the outer suburbs along dedicated quality bus corridors & using low floor easy access buses.
