Dublin Bus introduced new route 240 on Sunday 10th May 2009, operating from Toberburr ( Rivermeade housing estate ) via St Margaret's, newly opened Charlestown Shopping Centre, via Finglas Village & Deanstown to Cappagh Hospital.
This new route, described as a localink service, replaced former route 40B which operated from Toberburr directly to the City Centre ( Parnell Street )
Route 240 operates 7 days a week, from Harristown Garage, with a trip time of 30 minutes each way & requires one bus. Two morning & evening departures operate into the City Centre, currently at 6.45 & 8.00 hrs, returning from Parnell Square at 17.22 & 18.22 hrs.
Recently delivered Volvo B9 Enviro400 EV 70 operated the first mornings service from Toberburr at 10.00 hrs to Cappagh Hospital. The display on the LED's is Deanstown via Finglas Village when heading from Toberburr.
Route 240 loops around the Rivermeade Estate with various stops both inbound & outbound. The Rivermeade Estate is off the R122 secondary road, north of St Margaret's & north west of Dublin Airport.
EV 70 was delivered to Harristown as part of the 50 Enviro400's delivered to Dublin Bus in 2008 ( EV 51 to 100 ). Harristown Garage received EV 65 to 74 & are allocated to both the 40 group & Blanchardstown localink route 237/238 & 239 routes.
Finglas will now be served by the 40 group, the 104, the 140 & now the 240.

The exact routing from Tobberburr to Cappagh Hospital is exit Rivermeade housing estate, following the secondary R122 road, via St Margarets Village, passing the end of Dublin Airport runway 10/28, Coldwinters ( DHL ) facility, over the M50 at Beleskin, St Margarets Road again, past Charlestown shopping centre. McKeee Road. Right at the village and then onto Finglas Main Street, down into Main Road, right just before Finglas Place, over onto Finglas Road ( N2) northbound, right into Wellmount Road, left into Dunsink Avenue & into Dunsink Drive as far as Wellmount Road again, up Cardiffsbridge Road, Deanstown Avenue, Kilshane Road, Ratoath Road & up to Cappagh Hospital.
Heading to Toberburr from Ratoath Road, the routing around the Deanstown loop is Rathvilly Road & onto Deanstown Avenue.

This is the 15.00 hrs departure from Toberburr, which is a short working to Finglas Village only, before the bus heads back out of service to Harristown Garage at the end of a shift.

The original 240 southern terminus was Deanstown in Finglas however the route was extended up the Ratoath Road to serve Cappagh Hospital.

Dublin City Centre ( Parnell Street ) via Finglas to Toberburr.
