Route 31C was launched on the 7th November 2005 to facilitate local residents travelling from Carrickbrack Road around Howth, plus providing a link between the two DART Station. Route 31C is the modern day version of former route 88 which operated the same routing.
Selected route 31B departures from Howth are extended to leave from Howth Station via Howth Summit in the weekday mornings, usually the 7.10 & 7.40 services.

In January 2009, the bus stop was moved out of the station & further down the road towards Howth harbour due to parking congestion. The 31 stop on the roadside was also decommissioned so all routes now serve the new harbour stop.
