Dublin Bus route 61 was launched on Sunday 7th August 2011 as part of Network Direct.
Route 61 operates from Whitechurch Estate in Rathfarnham, connecting with Ballyboden Way, Rathfarnham, Nutgrove Avenue, Dundrum ( LUAS ), Milltown, Ranelagh, St Stephens Green terminating at Townsend Street.
Route 61 replaced route 15B at Whitechurch, which was re routes to Ballyboden Way while replacing route 48A taking its routing between Dundrum & the City Centre.
Route 61 operates approximately every hour Monday to Sunday, a Monday to Friday peak journey is extended to Rockbrook/ Tibradden ( Route 161 terminus )
Route 61 is operated by Donnybrook Garage & is a low floor route.
Donnybrook ALX 400 AV 326 was the first bus to operate the new route 61 on Sunday 7th August 2011 seen above in Whitechurch Estate ( Green ) at the terminus awaiting its 10.30 hrs departure back to the City Centre.
New route 61 now connects Whitechurch with Rathfarnham, Nutgrove Shopping Centre, Dundrum LUAS & Shopping Centre, Ranelagh & St Stephens Green.

Route 61 offers direction connections to Dublin City Centre while local route 161 which operates from Tibradden/ Rockbrock continues to service Whitechurch to Nutgrove Shopping Centre. From Sunday 7th August 2011, route 161 was extended from its Nutgrove terminus to Dundrum ( LUAS interchange )
