The new Dublin Bus route 79A will now operate services to Park West 7 days a week, with a half hour frequency Monday to Friday, every hour on Saturday & every 90 minutes approx on Sundays.
The route was facilitated thanks to the opening of a new link road from Cherry Orchard into Park West.
Route 79A is a spur of the long established route 79 which still operates along the same routing as far as Cherry Orchard Avenue before turning right into Blackditch Road & terminating at Spiddal Park.
AV 290 ( 03 D 20290 ) seen above is a Volvo B7TL which operates from Conyngham Road. It was originally delivered to Broadstone Garage to operate route 123 during the Special Olympics in 2003 for a few weeks, before this batch ( AV 288 - 302 ) was transferred to Conyngham Road as their intended garage. This AV batch allowed for the transfer of the dreaded AD class from Conyngham to Phibsboro for further service, especially on cross city route 122.
Route 79 has been traditionally been operated by the various Leyland /Volvo RH & RV Olympians along with Conyngham's 9 strong Volvo Setanta's ( the VA class ).
The arrival of new ALX400 from Dennis Alexander's, AV 399 - 415 in June 2005 allowed for route 79 & now 79A to be added to the ever expanding " low floor / accessible " routes by Dublin Bus.
AV290 is seen above operating the 11.35 hrs services from the City Centre ( Aston Quay ) back to Park West.
The current dot matrix displays on route 79A do not alternate bilingually, either showing Parkwest via Heuston or just City Centre An Lar.
