Dublin in the snow Feb 2009
Snow affected parts of the Dublin Bus network during February 2009

An overnight flurry into the 8th Feb provided a photo opportunity .

The renowned photographer Patrick Losty was out to capture the moment on the Navan Road.....

New Years Day, 1st January 2010
Phibsboro Garage AX 599 makes the first trip along the N4 Lucan corridor just after 14.00 hrs
Services are restored to most of the network at only 14.00 hrs on New Years Day following heavy snowfall & compacted ice from the night before.

Following two weeks of sub zero temperatures, ice & snow flurries in January 2010, the penultimate night of  Saturday 9th January brought a heavy downpour of snow, just as evening was turning to morning. EV 77 is seen on the Clontarf Road, in a spectacular & rare snow covered landscape. Within 24 hours, a thaw had set in & that was the end of the snow & such shots.

2010
On Saturday 27th November 2010, cold artic air along with sub zero temperatures combined with a light dusting of snow in the morning, covering most parts of the Capital.

Recently transferred Enviro 400 EV 42 from Harristown to Summerhill Garage is seen making its way towards the 123 terminus on Griffith Avenue. That evening, just before midnight, a heavy blizzard cemented on top of the earlier flurry......
Day 2, Sunday 28th November 2010, the snow has settled overnight with further flurries, coating even the main roads & corridors around the City, reducing the light traffic to much slower & calmer conditions. By now, some majors curtailments of bus routes were in place, in particular some housing estates not treated with grit nor thawing were not being served.
Clontarf EV 85 threads carefully along snow covered Fairview Park on the way into the City Centre. The photo is taken from the iconic pedestrian bridge in Fairview, its future in doubt due to corrosion, its fate to be decided soon.
In the early hours of  Sunday 28th November 2010, the first significant coating of snow covered the Capital, most Dubliners opening their curtains to a white wonderland, this overnight flurry fell uninterupted, so by morning even the main roads were completely carpeted in a snow blanket, then freezing over by dawn.
Clontarf AV 93, originally a Conyngham Road ALX400, poses in the snow as the first flakes hit the Northside.
1st December at the City Centre is overwhelmed by a snow flurry just after 2 pm having been tracked & forecast from the morning of the impending front. The heavy flakes soon covered even the main roads & quickly hampered traffic within the City. Parnell Square West was worst affected, with the compacted ice causing treacherous conditions especially for the numerous buses & coaches leaving the City, bringing the flow down to just one lane.
Meanwhile on Gardiner Street, Harristown AX 551 was operating a 41 to Swords, it too having to run the gauntlet of equally hilly Mountjoy Square.
The 1st of December 2010 & even the city streets are glazed with the white stuff.
Donnybrooks EV 28 meanders down Dawson Street on route 145 from Kilmacanogue in the middle of a snow flurry. After a few days, the transport system is slowly " coming to grips " with the new snow challenge, where routes continue as much as possible, with Dubliner's becoming accustomed to route curtailments & diversions during the bad weather. Thanks to a well & frequently updated Dublin Bus website, all changes are regularly updated.
With untreated roads, in particular some of the suburbs, ranging from Larkhill & Marino on the Northside to Sandymount & Lucan, buses services were soon pulled from minor roads & housing estates, where no melting or grtiing was taking place.
Enviro400 EV 76 poses for a picture postcard in Seapark Clontarf just before route 130 was withdrawn from its terminus on Castle Avenue.
As daylight fades on a bitterly cold & frozen Harolds Cross Road 28th November 2010, Ringsend's ALX400 AV 319 picks up a few chilled passengers heading into town. Route 49 operating from The Square in Tallaght suffered minor curtailments during the icy weather, not operating via its Ballycullen loop, a housing estate perched on the Dublin mountains & one of the numerous suburbs off limits to buses.
Conyngham's Enviro400 EV 62 at its new extended terminus on Merrion Square as part of some Network Direct changes to the Lucan routes, with route 25, 66 & 67 groups moving from the terminus on Pearse Street up to Merrion Square. Routes 25 & 25A transfered back to Conyngham Road from Phibsboro Garage, along with the creation of new route 25B to Adamastown. Route 25B was badly affected during the icy conditions, most days operating as 25A's to Esker.
1st December 2010, its day 5 of the snow & the whole of Dublin is covered in the white stuff at this stage.
Its get on with life, main roads are moving & buses are operating with some diversions & curtailments. Route 42B from the City Centre to Ayrfield ( Blunden Drive ) is badly effected by the snow, it tapers off the main Malahide Road at Artane Roundabout, in through Gracefield, Harmonstown & Edenmore housing estates, roads untreated & not passable by buses, so route 42B is confined to operating long the Malahide Road only.
AV 345 pauses between trips on a very snow covered Malahide Road landscape.
