During July 2004, Saint Stephens Green West was closed to vehicular traffic while the road was resurfaced opposite the LUAS terminus. Traffic directions in the area have been radically changed, with an emphasis on easier bus access. Here on a photo feature on some of the new routings....
Donnybrook based Olympian RA 187 sporting a colourful livery for AXA Insurance, heads down Lower Leeson Street on route13B. Its just about to turn RIGHT onto Stephens Green East in a new contraflow for all traffic.
Route 13B's days could be numbered given that the new LUAS light rail system for Dublin passes by this routes territory near Ranelagh & Beechwood. Even peak time loadings lately are non existent.
Ringsend based Olympian RA 201, in the new Dublin Bus core fleet livery is seen on the now closed part of St Stephens Green WEST. Routes 14 & 15's from Camden Street must now meander around via Hatch Street & onto Leeson Street before taking the new layout around the Green.
In the photo, the queue in the background is for the LUAS light rail system. The LUAS has just been operating a few days & Dubliner's are taking part in the free service, which caused an amazing interest in the new tram system.
Final " Alexander " badged Volvo B7TL, AV 282 recently transferred from Broadstone to Phibsboro Garage on route 37X to Carpenterstown. AV 282 is seen above on St Stephens North just across from The Shelbourne Hotel, which has now become a two way system with bus stops just ahead of its intersection with Kildare Street.
Recently delivered Volvo B7TL, AV 383 of Ringsend Garage seen on Leeson Street following its new routing around the Green.
AV 383 has been delivered in Wedding Bus format, displacing similar but older AV 245- 246 at Ringsend back to Dublin Bus core standard livery. It has yet to receive its Wedding Bus adverts.
Donnybrook Olympian RH 164, recently inherited from Phibsboro Garage allowing for the withdrawal of the AD class entirely from Donnybrook seen on a 46A working in from Dun Laoighre.
This photo shows the opposite angle, with traffic from Kildare Street still entering the Green in the same way, but only buses allowed onto St Stephens Green West using a 24 hour bus lane.
Broadstone Olympian RV 470 operates a 25X Xpresso service to Lucan, still scrolling the now defunct " Cityspeed " service.
Summerhill Olympian RV 543 on its daily peak service 27C to/ from Clare Hall on behalf of Clontarf Garage, pictured outside the Gresham Hotel.
AV 311 of Ringsend Garage along Stephens Green North. From the Kildare Street junction, its a one way system anticlockwise up to the Dawson Street intersection. New bus stops along the Green are just opposite where AV 311 is pictured.
Finally, Broadstone AW 6, sporting the new revised AW class livery about to turn off the Green onto Dawson Street. Traffic can continue on North on the Green towards the car parks at the College of Surgeons.
All bus routes head back down Dawson Street & back onto their original routings.
